AGREEMENT BETWEEN SUBJECT WORD – 2 AND VERB/HELPING VERB

We use verb and helping verb according to the second subject word if two subject words are joined by any one of the following words: “nor, or, but also
Examples:
(i) Not only Chips but also the young masters was /were annoyed at slave driving of Ralston.
(ii) Neither my soldiers nor I are /amgoing to ruin the village just for free salt. 
(iii) Either the obtuse quack or the camel-men is/ are stupid.
